If Paulsen can't win now...

...how can he hope to compete on a level playing field? Erik Paulsen had every advantage in fundraising, but he still got beat.

Look at the advantages Erik Paulsen had:
- Madia was not endorsed until April 12, while Paulsen's nomination wasn't even challenged;
- Ashwin Madia does not accept corporate PAC contributions, and Paulsen does; and
- Paulsen took money from a fundraiser headlined by Dick Cheney.

Nevertheless, Ashwin Madia outraised Paulsen by about $90,000! He raised this money the old-fashioned way, by talking to voters in the district and attracting more than 1,000 new donors. How is Paulsen going to compete? Maybe he should ask President Bush to campaign for him next time.

The bottom line: with all the odds against him, Ashwin Madia won the fundraising battle in the 2nd quarter. He'll win the election on November 4th the same way: through hard work and grassroots politics.
